Transparency and authenticity are the building blocks of the positive relationships between Independence Wealth Advisors and our clients. Our IWA Client Advisory Board meets once a quarter to discuss important topics like the client experience. This board acts as the voice of the client and helps us maintain a close and productive relationship with the people we serve.

Meet Our Board

Vince Mandalla

Vince has an extensive entrepreneurial background as the current president of a construction company and serves in a very rewarding role as the administrator for a local nonprofit. He has also owned and operated a chain of retail stores, a local service company, and an e-commerce business. Vince brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the board, from management and customer service to fiscal responsibility.

Vince and his wife enjoy spending time with their children, biking, skiing, the great outdoors, and they look forward traveling more.

David Miller

Dave grew up in Chagrin Falls, obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Kent State and subsequently became a Certified Public Accountant. His banking career started at Central Bank of Akron and ended at KeyCorp 41 years later. He has been married to his wife, Ruth, for 42 years and has four children, ages 32 through 39, who are all married. Two have doctorates, one has an MBA and CPA, and his youngest son has just recently quit wandering the globe to go back into data engineering. He is incredibly proud of all of them.

In his spare time, Dave enjoys singing with his church choir, remodeling his house, and bike riding.  His best choir experience was singing at the old Cleveland Stadium in the Billy Graham Crusade choir. His most notable building experience was moving a barn from Bath to Richfield and his best bike experience was riding RAGBRAI across Iowa. David brings a good business sense to the table for the Client Advisory Board and considers it a pleasure to be of assistance to Independence Wealth Advisors.

Cindy Misiak

Cindy is joyfully retired following a 43-year career in human resources at the Cleveland Clinic. While working, Cindy’s areas of expertise included policy development and interpretation, employee relations, recruitment and hiring, job evaluation, salary and benefits, EEO/AAP and Family Medical Leave administration.

Since 1996 and in retirement, Cindy enjoys working as an independent contractor for Power Presentations providing presentations skill training for professionals from a variety of Fortune 500 Companies, federal agencies, and nonprofit organizations improving their communication skills and advancing their careers.

Cindy earned her bachelor’s degree from Baldwin Wallace College. She lives in Strongsville with her husband. When weather permits, you’ll find Cindy walking, gardening, biking, swimming, and cross-country skiing. When the weather forces her inside, Cindy can be found quilting, reading, and socializing with friends.

Michael Polovick

Michael is currently retired. Most recently, he was the vice president of human resources for The Smithers Group, a multinational scientific testing and consulting organization.

Michael has more than 30 years of HR leadership and consulting experience with both private and publicly traded firms including Bridgestone, Pirelli, and Continental Tire. His favorite professional accomplishment was preventing the closure of a 2000 employee manufacturing plant by negotiating an innovative labor agreement with a challenging labor union.

In addition to his role on the IWA client advisory board, he focuses his time on paying forward, especially to jobseekers looking to enhance their employment prospects. He serves as vice president of Hudson Job Search, a board member for his alma mater the University of Akron’s Human Resources Advisory Committee, and facilitator of the Department of Job and Family Services, Summit County Ohio Means Jobs Executive Networking Group.

He enjoys his role on the advisory board, helping ensure that IWA is transparent and focused on maintaining the trust necessary between a client and their financial partners.

Michael is an auto enthusiast who, when not at the races or watching them on TV, can be found detailing his pride and joy until the wee hours. He and his wife Cindi live in Cuyahoga Falls and they enjoy traveling and spending time with their family, especially their first granddaughter.

Thomas Shepard

Tom’s abilities and knowledge in business, personnel, and financial responsibilities come from his 33 years of experience at the Cleveland Clinic. He began his career there as a journeyman painter. Over the years, he attended college and obtained various degrees. He advanced to several management positions and completed the majority of his career as the director of facilities engineering, managing over 250 personnel, a $60 million dollar budget, and maintaining over 14 million square feet of critical health buildings. After retiring in 2013, he worked for Life Safety Enterprises as the director of business development.

Tom is currently fully retired and enjoys much of his time staying active with other retirees, schoolmates, and most of all, with his wife and family of three married children and four grandchildren.

Darrell Kaput

Darrell is a life-long Clevelander. Born and raised on the west side of Cleveland, he graduated from St. Ignatius High School and Bowling Green State University with a degree in marketing.

He began a 20-year sales career as a customer service rep in the construction/mining industry and subsequently became sales manager. This experience led him to a 30-year career as a self-employed sales engineer in the thermal processing industry.

He resides with his wife, Chris, of 42 years in Broadview Heights. He has two married children, a son living in North Royalton and a daughter in Nashville, TN. He is the proud grandfather of one very active seven-year-old grandson.

Darrell is an avid fan of all Cleveland sports teams and never met a golf course he did not like. He enjoys being a member of the IWA Client Advisory Board, as his extensive sales background brings another voice to the table.
